If you said that someone was looking into their Crystal Ball, you would be saying that they were trying to see, or predict, the future.
Crystal balls have been used by fortune-tellers for a long time, but more recently, they have also been used for creative photography. The term “lensball” is commonly used to describe a crystal ball when it is used in conjunction with a camera.
Crystal Balls, and lensballs, are tricky things to produce. They are made from high-quality optical glass and because the ball must be flawless, many are discarded during the production process. The larger the ball, the more likely it is that a flaw might develop, hence the larger sizes being disproportionately more expensive.
Crystal gazing was a popular pastime during the Victorian era and it was claimed to work best with the Sun at its northernmost declination. Crystal gazers say that immediately before the appearance of a vision, the ball would mist up from within.
See the full collection here and not surprisingly, you can read more about Crystal Balls on Wikipedia.

You could also display them on a LED lightbox for a bit more drama.
Note: the picture of the tree looks like it has been inverted by trickery. When used as a lens, the image seen through the lensball is upside down.
